About our Trust

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—and a number of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

The Trust has over 6,000 staff proudly serving a million people locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We treat a patient every 40 seconds, performing 34,000 operations and carrying out 391,000 scans, x-rays and procedures each year. As the second largest maternity provider in the country we help deliver a baby almost every hour of the day. We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country and 90% of our patients would recommend us to family and friends.

About the role

Senior Shoulder and Elbow Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery

FIXED TERM 12 MONTHS (subject to 6 months review).

CLOSING DATE: 28/02/2018

INTERVIEW DATE: 13/03/2018

Due to recent expansion we have an exciting opportunity available to complement our dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at the West Middlesex University Hospital site. Currently the team consists of 7 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialists, 3 Specialist Registrars, 3 Specialty Doctors, 2 Core Trainees, 6 Junior Clinical Fellows and a Specialist Trauma Nurse.

The successful candidates will work with established Consultant who is able to train in Elective Upper surgery and specialised Trauma.

The appointee will be scheduled for non-resident on calls duties on the middle tier rota, which are currently shared between 7 doctors, supervising ward rounds, attending sub-speciality clinics and will be exposed to complex, high volume theatre activity.

Ideally the candidate will be able to practise under distant supervision in clinic once comfortable so there is plenty of scope to grow into the roles.

The Department has established working links with Imperial College NHS Trust which is our Major Trauma Centre and our sister site The Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust which has specialist hand and plastic surgery units.

This is ideally long-term appointments with opportunity to be converted to Specialty Doctor status subject to a satisfactory performance review at 6 months.

The West Middlesex University Hospital is an evolving, dynamic, growing unit in West London, with a proven teaching and training track record proven by GMC feedback and successive Orthopaedic Regional Trainer of the Year awards.

There are also growing research opportunities with collaboration with NIHR, Imperial College as demonstrated by recent publications and international presentations on virtual fracture clinics and frugal innovation.

We are keen to support applications for CESR Article 14 and have a track record of providing the right amount of experience and infrastructure to allow achievement of Specialist Registration with the GMC and attainment of CCT.

The successful candidates must be proactive, eager to engage and be a part of the team and hold full GMC registration.
